Homes

on the waiting list

Waiting lists Josh is currently on:

  • Carolina Living and Learning Center - since ~July, 2007
    • not sure why we applied here, since they seem to only take adults -- but someone recommended it, and anyway he will probably be an adult by the time they have a slot
    • this apparently gets him onto TEACCH's general waiting list, which occasionally has other openings
  • Group Homes for the Autistic since September, 2007 (checked March 2008, September 2008)
    • in Albemarle, NC (near Charlotte), but is reportedly really good
    • working farm setting

We have been focusing more on getting Josh into a therapeutic foster home, as those are much more available and the need for Josh's care to be in the hands of someone who can dedicate more time and energy to him than we can is urgent.

other places to investigate

  • The ASNC has a list of suitable homes in NC
    • Residential Services Inc. in Orange County comes highly recommended; need to send them an application (note: they do take private pay for the part not covered by Medicaid)
