The following is an exchange between Woozle and Chase bank, conducted via the secure messaging feature of their web site (which lately only works for me in Chrome, not Firefox... but that's a separate issue).

We have recently resolved a very difficult situation that began several years ago, and are now ready to try and address this debt. Our means remain very limited, but should improve over time.

Can you offer a reduced amount as a lump sum payout to settle Sandy's debt to Chase, including all three accounts [numbers redacted], and what would that amount be? Alternatively, what monthly payment schedule would you accept as a plan to pay off these debts?

I'm sorry, I think I must be misunderstanding something.

Sandy would be happy to send you a notarized letter authorizing me to access this account.

What I don't understand is why I need to have a power of attorney. I don't need authority to act on her behalf; I just want to discuss her options for payment on this account.

Would the notarized letter of authorization you described be sufficient?
