2005-06-10 One day after a drenching rain, some ants decided our mailbox was nice and dry. I left the door open for an hour or two and they mostly went away. I closed it again and they were back. I finally had to start sweeping them out; after one round of that, they stopped reappearing.
2009 postscript: they came back again several times, and I finally had to caulk the corners of the mailbox to keep them out.
